Ugg brand boots are actually made by a lot of different companies. Australian Ugg boots by Uggs-and-Rugs and Ugg Australia boots by Deckers Outdoor Corporation both use ugg as part of their company name and are probably the most prominent.

Interestingly enough, Deckers, a USA owned company, is currently fighting to get exclusive rights to the term “ugg boot.” Most others ugg boot manufacturers now say they make sheepskin boots rather than ugg boots to keep out of the legal mess. It seems a shame to me considering that the term “ugg boot” is really an Australian generic term for “sheepskin boot” and should not be owned by anyone. Here’s what you need to know about the different boots. Ugg Australia makes all their boots in either China or New Zealand presently. They are rated very high in quality and craftsmanship. This brand is what you mostly hear about and the celebrities wear. Their design is clean and simple overall with the exception of the Ugg Fluff Momma boots, which are big furry things. Also they do tend to be expensive but will last a long time. Oddly they no longer make men’s ugg tall boots.

Most of the Australian brands do still make their boots and shoes in Australia with a few exceptions. Emu Ridge of Australia does make theirs in China and tend to run cheaper than many of the other brands. Australian sheepskin boots have long been said to be superior in quality but in a recent test reported on by an Australian magazine they did not do as well as the Ugg Australia boots. However, they do use in most brands 100% real sheepskin in and outside of the boot. The Chinese made boots are said to use a lower grade sheepskin that actual comes from New Zealand and Australia. When you do your research before buying, make sure the boots you are getting are genuine sheepskin. Ask questions of the boot dealer if you are in doubt.
