In order to find the right combat boot, tactical boot
or duty boot you need to take steps to examine your needs and
the ultimate end-use for the boot
What kind of conditions do you plan to use your combat boots,
tactical boots or duty boots in? Combat boots can be desert and
sand prepared or jungle and forest equipped. Most tactical boots
and duty boots tend to be similar but there are variations on
boot height and support thickness. Also if you are going to be
in cold weather, it is best to make sure the boot is lined with
Thinsulate or a similar insulating material. Most boots will be
waterproof but check the boots specifications out as well to make
sure they are.
Depending on the environment you plan to be in the combat boots
you choose will have different tread patterns. Tactical boots
and duty boots mostly come in contact with concrete and asphalts
surfaces and tend to be more multi-terrain boots. Jungle boots
often have rippled soles that are PVC/PU injection molded. Jump
boots and infantry boots tend to be flat on their soles while
ranger boots are more like hiking boots.
Getting a good fit is going to be crucial to your comfort in
your new combat boots, tactical boots or duty boots. Don’t
get boots too large because the leather will stretch as it’s
worn and you want a snugger fit. Wear thick socks in your boots
and wear them around the house before taking them outside. This
way you can tell if they fit right and if they don’t, you
can return them. Most retailers will exchange boots that haven’t
been scuffed up or worn outside. You can use a leather conditioner
to work trouble spots out of the leather boots. Some shoe repair
stores can stretch any chaffing areas. If you buy steel toe boots,
remember these are harder to wear in and the toes don’t
change. Wear thick socks in these boots as well and be sure you
have room in the toe section because it will not stretch.
