What makes a perfect winter boot or snow boot?
Looking for a winter boot can be a pain in the neck. There are
many to choose from and it can get overwhelming. You need to ask
yourself what conditions you want the boot for. Do you need more
of a snow boot? Or do you need more a sheep skin boot? Do you
want a winter boot to track thru the snow all day or do you want
to wear it inside the house around the fire? Most snow boots are
good for getting thru snow and working in. However, you won’t
wear them in the house like you can a sheep skin boot.
A winter boot may need to perform several roles for you that
a strict snow boot can’t. This is where a sheep skin boot
excels because it is so versatile. You can wear it outside in
extreme cold but also wear it indoors because it will adapt to
the temperature you are at. Plus they aren’t big and clunky
like most boots can be. You probably won’t want to wear
a Sorel boot or Columbia boot in the house.
Some people use other types of boots for winter boots but most
aren’t designed to handle the cold temperatures. In place
of a snow boot or sheep skin boot they use hunting boots or combat
boots. These aren’t always designed as much for the conditions
of winter. Plus again you’ll probably have to take them
off when you get in the house. This is why we favor the sheep
skin boot as a winter boot over most others unless you need to
do a lot of heavy work outside. Then it would be wise to pick
a Sorel boot or Columbia boot to get the job done.
