Cheap Magnum tactical boots may not be the best way to go when buying police boots or swat boots unless you want to just use them to work in the yard with.

I bought a pair of Magnum tactical boots at a boot military sale. They were cheap at $35 so I figured it was a good deal. I wanted a police boot or swat boot because I thought they would make a good boot for working construction, working in the yard and/or riding my motorcycle in. However, while the Magnum tactical boots did function fairly well in those capacities I did find them to be a bit too uncomfortable. I definitely found them difficult to wear all day. The tongue of the boot is a protective pad. It’s very stiff and thick and tends to dig into your lower shinbone. Plus it helps make the boot very difficult to get in and out of in a hurry. This tongue pad and the boot lacing system considerably slow the process of getting the boots on and off. And that is an important point for me. I hate lacing for what seems like all day. (I probably should have bought a Wellington boot or some other slip on type. However, there are some lace-up boots that do function well like Lacrosse work boots.)

Another point of contention I found with my Magnum tactical boots was the lack of any steel toe. I figured almost all police boot or swat boots would at least function as military steel toe boot. These weren’t even composite toe boots. It made me wonder why all the protection for your lower shinbone but none for your toe? The toe would seem to me to be a much more vulnerable spot. In my mind these boots were more protective than Dr. Martens boots but still short in toe protection. (Dr. Martens boots are some of the most overrated, over hyped and uncomfortable boots ever. Supposedly they were designed for people with bad feet. I think someone on crack designed them. They are long on trend and short on function and comfort in my opinion. Yet lots of people love them.)

Now even though my Magnum tactical boots didn’t particularly knock me out, I must say for $35 they weren’t all bad. The traction on the sole is great. The nylon mesh materials they are made out of helped make them very light weight. And I might be able to remove the thick tongue pad to make them more comfortable to me. However, I would advise that when searching for a good police boot or swat boot, spend the extra money and get a really good quality one. Going too cheap has not worked out for me at all in relation to boots. Every cheap boot I’ve bought I’ve been sorry about it later. Take care of your feet and especially if you plan on wearing the boots a lot. You’ll not regret your purchase later if you get good quality boots rather than cheap models.
