Leather boots give the support and protection a motorcycle
boot must have
The leather boot is synonymous with the motorcycle boot. One
just doesn’t think of a motorcycle boot without thinking
of it being made of leather. The leather boot is well suited to
being a motorcycle boot for many reasons. The biggest is it is
just plain durable enough to withstand the rigors of the open
road. And that’s whether it’s just resting on the
motorcycle pegs or getting roughed up on the asphalt surface.
The leather boot for motorcycling comes in many styles. One of
the most popular and a classic looking motorcycle boot is the
engineer boot. This simple boot is usually around 11” high
and has a smooth rounded toe with a belt and buckle around the
bridge and ankle. This is our personal favorite. A similar boot
is the harness boot which usually has a squared off front toe
and two rings linked in the belt around both sides of the ankle.
Both are very stylish and able to stand up to road pounding.
Some people like other traditional leather boots to use as motorcycle
boots. Steel toed boots and other work boots are often used. However,
they don’t carry the same vibe or true protection an engineer
boot has if they don’t reach over the ankle. (That is an
important feature to have. Motorcycle boots should cover the ankle
and then some to be safe from engine burns and protect against
road rash if you fall.) Cowboy or western boots made from exotic
leather are also used but we have doubts if they could seriously
with stand a solid asphalt scratch.
