Getting a leather boot for a hunting boot has advantages
and disadvantages
Leather boots are good solid hunting boots. They are super durable
and versatile. Leather boots can be made to be waterproof boots
and can be resoled if they are of high quality. They also can
really support your feet which hunters need in a good hunting
boot. They often provide more warmth then some other composite
fabric boots. Sometimes even half leather and half a fabric like
Gore-Tex makes for an excellent hunting boot.
Probably the biggest problem that a leather boot causes if used
as a hunting boot is the fact that they can smell. This means
they leave a scent trail wherever you have been. The animals pick
this up and stay clear thereby making for an unsuccessful hunting
trip. This is why if you are in a situation where trail scent
is important to your hunting experience, it is better to use rubber
boots. Rubber leaves no scent trail.
So while leather boots offer a lot in the way of hunting boots
it does depend on what type of hunting you need the boots for.
If you need to do a lot of climbing over rocky terrain and leaving
a scent does not matter to you, leather boots might be the superior
choice. If you are spending a lot of time in flatter areas with
lots of water and can’t afford to leave a scent trail, try
rubber boots.
