Lacrosse boots deliver a one two punch with their superbly
insulated and waterproof hiking boots
Lacrosse boots started out making rubber horse shoes in 1897
before completely switching to human footwear by 1906. With that
kind of history behind them there can be little doubt that when
it comes to making an insulated and waterproof hiking boot they
know what they are doing. But before I get too far I should make
sure you understand that Lacrosse boots make hiking boots that
are of a more serious nature. These are not just the ankle high
day hiking boots. These are serious pack boots with all the trimmings.
They can be insulated hiking boots for bitter cold and waterproof
hiking boots when you need to cross a stream or get caught in
a downpour.
There is a lot of technology and experience that goes into Lacrosse
boots. All their serious lace-up hiking boots use Precision Fit
Technology or PFT. PFT makes for an insulated hiking boot as well
as a waterproof hiking boot by providing a contoured fit and the
comfort of a leather boot. PFT boots are the first to come in
half sizes and widths which is why they fit so well.
Probably the two biggest indicators of how serious Lacrosse boots
are can be gathered by the level of Thinsulate™ Ultra Insulation
that is used and by Hyper-Dri®, the material used to keep
the boots waterproof. Thinsulate™ is the industry standard
for boot warmth and in Lacrosse boots you can get up to 1300 grams
of Thinsulate™ in certain models. That means they are cold
rated from -85° to -150°. Of course you only need this
kind of insulated hiking boot if you are in really cold weather
and stationary. 400 grams is about right for moderate activity
levels. The amount of Thinsulate™ you need pertains to how
cold it is and how active you are going to be in that cold. Hyper-Dri®
is a barrier that lines the inside of the boot and makes it a
100% waterproof hiking boot. Plus it absorbs moisture and wicks
it away from your feet further keeping them comfortable and dry.
If Lacrosse boots tend to be a bit too manly for you, you might
want to check some other boot brands such as Coleman hiking boots,
Montrail hiking boots, Vasque hiking boots and other Gore-Tex
hiking boots. These brands of insulated and waterproof hiking
boots have some similarities but offer different technologies
and appearances.
